Running a Successful Ranch
Raising animals is a reliable source of cooking ingredients (eggs, milk, butter) and crafting materials (wool, feathers). This guide covers everything from keeping your animals happy to breeding rare color variants and setting up beehives for passive honey production.
π Animal Mood & Happiness
Every animal has a mood meter (0β100%). High mood increases product quality and quantity.
- Daily petting: Each animal can be petted once per day, giving +10 mood.
- Feeding: Keep troughs filled with appropriate feed (hay for chickens, grass for cows, etc.). Empty troughs reduce mood by -5 per hour.
- Shelter: Animals need a barn or coop appropriate for their species (Chicken Coop, Cow Barn, etc.). Without shelter, mood drops faster during rain/night.
- Cleanliness: Dirty pens (waste not cleared) reduce mood by -2 per hour. Use a shovel to remove manure.
π‘ Mood over 80%: +25% chance to produce starβquality products. Mood below 20%: animals may stop producing entirely.
π Livestock & Their Products
| Animal | Unlock Condition | Base Product | Star Product Value | Best Use |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chicken (Brown) | Gardening Lv 5, Coop built | Egg (daily) | 15g β | Cooking (quiche, cake) |
| Chicken (White) | Breeding (rare) | Egg (daily) | 20g β | Higher sell value |
| Cow (Brown) | Gardening Lv 8, Barn built | Milk (daily) | 30g β | Cheese, butter |
| Cow (Black & White) | Breeding (very rare) | Milk (daily) | 45g β | High-profit milk |
| Sheep | Gardening Lv 10, Barn upgrade | Wool (every 2 days) | 40g β | Fabric, rugs |
| Duck | Gardening Lv 12, Coop upgrade | Feather (every 2 days) | 35g β | Crafting, gifts |
π£ Breeding Animals
- Requirements: One male and one female of the same species (gender visible in animal details). Both must have mood β₯ 80% for at least 3 consecutive days.
- Gestation time: 2 realβworld days (48 hours).
- Offspring: A baby animal appears in the barn/coop. After 4 days, it matures into an adult and can be kept or sold.
- Rare color variants: Some breeding pairs have a small chance (5%) to produce a rare color (e.g., White Chicken, Black & White Cow). These sell for higher prices and produce star products more often.
- Limit: Maximum 6 animals per barn/coop. Breeding stops if capacity is full.
π° Selling a mature animal: Base price 500β2000g depending on rarity. Breeding for rare colors can be profitable.
π Beehives β Passive Honey Production
Beehives are unlocked at Gardening Level 6. They require no daily maintenance and passively produce honey and wax.
- Materials: 20 Wood, 5 Copper Bar, 2 Glass (Workbench).
- Placement: Near flowers (daisies, bluebells) increases honey production by 20% per flower within 5 tiles.
- Production cycle: Honey produced every 12 real hours; wax every 24 hours.
- Products: Honey (used in cooking, sells for 30g β ) and Beeswax (used for candles, furniture, sells for 15g).
- Maximum beehives: Up to 5 hives per plot (additional plots increase limit).
π‘ Place beehives in the center of a flower garden for maximum honey output β you can get up to 3 honey per day per hive.
π Poultry Management (Chickens & Ducks)
- Feeding: Chickens eat 1 seed (any) per day; ducks eat 1 seed + 1 water. Keep feeders full.
- Free-range bonus: If chickens have access to an outdoor fenced area (at least 10Γ10 tiles with grass), they produce eggs 25% faster.
- Nesting boxes: Each coop needs at least 2 nesting boxes for 6 chickens β otherwise egg production slows.
- Duck feathers: Ducks produce feathers every 2 days when mood > 70%. Feathers are used for pillows, decorations, and some NPC gifts (Tamala).
π‘ Optimal Ranch Layout
Small Ranch (1 plot)
- 1 Coop (up to 6 chickens)
- 1 Barn (up to 4 cows/sheep)
- 2 Beehives
- Fenced outdoor area (grass)
Large Ranch (2+ plots)
- 2 Coops (chickens + ducks)
- 2 Barns (cows + sheep)
- 5 Beehives
- Separate breeding pen
Place all buildings near each other for easy daily petting/feeding route. Use a shed to store extra hay and tools.
π Daily Ranch Checklist (10 min)
- Pet every animal (mood +10 each).
- Refill food troughs (check all barns/coops).
- Collect products (eggs, milk, wool, feathers).
- Remove manure (shovel) β compost it for fertilizer.
- Check beehives for honey/wax.
- If breeding: make sure mood >80% for breeding pair.
With 6 chickens, 4 cows, 2 sheep, and 5 beehives, you can earn 5,000β8,000 gold per day from ranch products alone.
